What’s up, Boss Squad?

We’re back! This week’s community news is focused on Chicago Poetry Fest 2022. On April 30, from 10 am – 4:30 pm, you can attend the 23rd annual festival of poetry readings, workshops, and exhibitors.

During the event, you’ll be able to attend Haiku Fest 18th Annual Ceremony, Poems While You Wait, Poets & Patrons, I’ve Got A Story For You: A Haibun Workshop, Poetry Reading with Winners of WOWPS, Business of Poetry Panel.

Keynote Poet: Cathy Park Hong, and 23rd Annual Open Mic & Poetry Fest.

Parents, consider bringing your children to the Haiku Fest 18th Annual Award Ceremony by Regina Harris Baioccchi. Baiocchi is a poet, author, composer, and the founder of the Haiku Festival. Guests can listen to poets 8 to 14 read their award-winning haikus.

While poetry is seen as a less lucrative form of writing by many, don’t underestimate the benefits of understanding the business side. You can attend the Business of Poetry Panel with Danta Williams, Jeronimo Speaks, and Vittorio Carli 1 pm – 2 pm in the Multipurpose Room B.

During the panel, poets and art-focused entrepreneurs will discuss how to book venues, self-publishing, ways to market yourself, and how to thrive using your creativity. It’s going to be a gold mine of information.

If you’re virtual, attend the keynote poet by Cathy Park Hong. Hong is the author of Translating Mo’um (Hanging Loose Press), Dance Dance Revolution, and the Barnard New Women Poets Prize winner. Hong is a recipient of fellowships from the Fullbright Foundation, the NEA, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Also, she’s an associate professor at Sarah Lawrence College and regular faculty at the Queens MFA program in Charlotte, North Carolina.
