Beneficial Stone Rollers: Natural Beauty Tools with Ancient Roots

Many beauty product systems claim to ‘make your skin look years younger,’ and if that’s what you’re after – you can rack up quite a bill trying to keep all the elasticity repair serums and clear-skin formulas in your stock. But there’s one product that only needs replacement once in a while. It’s a tool that anyone can use frequently and safely at home. They’re easy to use, beneficial stone rollers, and won’t break the bank.

Jade rollers, also known as  yushi gunlun, date back to China’s early 17th century Qing Dynasty. Medicine practitioners called them the stones of heaven, and Chinese nobility used the tool for their healing and soothing properties. Today, they’ve regained popularity due to how they improve the skin’s tone, texture, and elasticity. They’re a must-have tool to incorporate into your natural skincare routine.
Stone rollers are beneficial for all skin types. Four different styles provide a wide array of benefits. First, as previously mentioned, there’s the jade stone, then obsidian, rose quartz, and aventurine. Using the rollers, you’ll find that they reduce puffiness and leave your skin with a healthy glow. Giving your face a gentle massage encourages lymphatic drainage and increases healthy circulation.
Waking up from a long deep sleep usually makes your face puffy; the rollers help relieve the inflammation. Some find relief from sinus pressure and headaches, as well. Because they’re entirely non-porous, these rollers are an excellent tool for evenly applying moisturizers and other serums.
The rollers have one large roller on one end and a smaller roller on the other. The smaller roller is used around the nose, mouth, and under-eye areas.
The best practice is to direct all your rolling motions toward the outsides of your face. Start at the center of your chin, and roll up and out towards your ears. The exception is your forehead area, where you should start at the brows and roll upward towards your hairline.

Maintenance: After each use, rinse, dry, and store your stone roller for sanitation. Weekly, you should use your facial cleanser to clean the roller. Avoid harsh chemicals and allow your tool to dry thoroughly before sealing your facial roller in its storage container.

When to Use: When you choose to use your roller is up to you. But, the best results come from use during your morning preparation ritual. Also, using it two times a day is recommended.

How to Store: Place in a bag or container to keep clean. You can store your facial roller in your medicine cabinet or refrigerator. Keep it separate from open food containers to avoid contaminating your stone.

Tips/Tricks: Place your roller in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes max to provide a cooling relief to sunburn.

NOTE: Make sure not to put your roller in the freezer for too long due to the risk of cracking the stone. Don’t use super hot water to clean the roller because you could strip away the protective layer of your stones.

Stone Roller Types

Rose Quartz – Love stone, durable, stays cool, and is non-porous. Good for reducing inflammation and soothing sunburned skin.

Obsidian – Negativity blocking stone, tightens pores, removes toxins and impurities from the skin. It retains warmth and is best for blemish-prone skin.

Jade – Luck stone. This stone is the best for product application to your skin. It’s semi-porous, and it warms on contact. Although frequent use could compromise its durability, it’s still one of the best stones for overall skin health.

Aventurine – Harmony/Protection stone. This stone is beneficial during warm weather periods. Aside from reducing any inflammation heat might bring, it is also suitable for removing dark undereye circles and puffiness. Another benefit is that it helps flush toxins and bacteria that cause blemishes out of your face.
