Fashion for Freedom

Chicagoan Salisia Webber-Makinde is starting another year off on a mission. Salisia is the founder of The Blue Freedom Project, a 501c3 nonprofit organization combating human trafficking through education and career development.

We often read and listen to heart-wrenching tales like those showcased at Polaris Project of people locked in basements or forced to sell their bodies for fear of physical harm. The truth of what happens to the victims, told by those fortunate enough to get away, creates a path to knowledge. That knowledge is a powerful tool in helping to stop human trafficking.

On Saturday, January 21, 2023, The Blue Freedom Project held its 6th Annual “Fashion for Freedom” fundraising fashion show at the Oak Room in Chicago’s Willis Tower. The first fashion show to ever be held at the venue.

Urban Matrix brand ambassador Tasha Sloan participated in the show. Tasha rocked designs by @swam_love and Shein. Don’t forget to check out our online magazine for tips from the Blue Freedom Project on recognizing the signs of human trafficking.

Outfits on display from AKIRA Chicago, Smart Choice Suits, Swam Love Saks, Good American, Fashion Nova, and Shein. The show featured designs by Eimee Diaz, headpiece designer @moneymagnetpower, and T-Shirts designed by @goodvibez448.
